Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Sparing Total Knee Replacement
Innovative ACL Sparing Total Knee Replacement – Now Available in NE Wisconsin at the Kennedy Center
In 2014, the Kennedy Center began using an innovative new knee implant that preserves the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during a total knee replacement. While the results of a traditional knee replacement continue to be outstanding, this new ACL sparing knee implant offers active patients a more natural knee motion and flexibility. |
The ACL’s importance is evident by the number of people, including athletes, whose lives have been significantly altered by the loss of this ligament. Although the ACL is the most critical ligament in the knee, it is almost always sacrificed in a traditional knee replacement. |
Dr. McLaughlin believes that preserving the ACL is necessary to preserve normal knee function. In March 2013, the United States FDA approved the Vanguard XP; the only ACL sparing knee implant in America. This new procedure is an effective method to relieve pain and restore natural function for activities such as golfing, hiking and skiing.
And now the Kennedy Center is the only approved orthopedic clinic north of Milwaukee to offer this innovative knee replacement.
